Louloua Maleh

Louloua Maleh is a Syrian-Canadian visual artist based in Montréal, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Interior Architecture. Experiences of displacement and transition form a central axis of her practice, where personal events become the driving force behind bodies of work that explore psychological and emotional transformation.

Working in painting and mixed media, she builds dense surfaces and sharp textures, using knives on canvas to construct material layers that convey inner tension and restrained energy. Her work navigates between figuration and abstraction, with recurring human presences that appear similar in form yet reflect different emotional stages of the same inner state.

Her visual language is marked by saturated color fields and veiled forms, minimizing descriptive detail in favor of emotional concentration. Her work engages with opposing states such as loss and care, anxiety and hope, protection and pain, memory and transformation, while subtle Eastern visual sensibilities emerge through stone-like textures and symbolic echoes within a contemporary framework that merges figuration and abstraction. Her creative process privileges intuitive action and active contemplation over premeditated composition, guided by close attention to structure and tonal harmony, reflecting her background in design and interior architecture.

Maleh’s work has been presented in group and duo exhibitions in Montréal, Ottawa, and Vienna.
